Moncton Transgender Workshops - September 30th 2008 Sponsored by: PFLAG Canada
Moncton is about to have a transitional experience that PFLAG Canada thinks
will push gender boundaries to a whole new level.
PFLAG Canada is hosting a special workshop that will test personal boundaries of social acceptance and challenge those who choose to attend to see gender in ways they may never have fully considered before. The special introductory workshop on Transgender issues will be held at the beautiful premises of Amore Passion. This elegant setting is a Rainbow-owned business and a perfect setting for a friendly and personal type of workshop. Attendees will hear about real life issues, and learn the truths and myths of gender variant children and adults. They will receive real-life statistics on issues from suicide and homelessness to HIV/AIDS, and come to understand the degree of mental pressure suffered due to social marginalization and workplace transphobia. The facilitator of the workshop, Denise Holliday, is a 61 year-old post-op transwoman who was granted full female Canadian status in September. 2003. Denise has lived full- time as a female since 1998, and has been with Sharon, her spouse, for 38 years. The couple has three grown children: a son, 36, and two daughters, 30 and 20. Denise and Sharon also have two granddaughters, 1 and 3 years old, who refer to them as Gran and Grammy, respectively. Those who attend this PFLAG Canada workshop will enjoy good food while learning about the facts and myths of the transgender community. Denise is an accomplished workshop facilitator and has a reputation for fine educating and story-telling which will certainly be enjoyed by all who attend. Workshop registrants will be able to choose from a morning or evening session, each lasting four hours. Amore Passion’s owner, Mario Bourgeois Leduc, has promised fine food and an atmosphere that is outstanding. Visit Amore Passion’s web site at www.amorepassion.com. Denise has been very active in several areas concerning transgender
education. As a writer with Wayves magazine she penned “Transgender Diaries”
and writes articles on various issues. She also serves on the board of
Northern AIDS Connection Society and volunteers as PFLAG Canada’s transgender
communication coordinator, answering the PFLAG Canada toll-free gender
